Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK or 2-butanone) is a colourless, low viscosity solvent with a mild odour. It is completely miscible with many organic liquids and to a much lesser, limited degree with water. With natural and synthetic resins the main advantages in using MEK are resultant low viscosity and the ability to produce high solid content products.
Both the lower density and the higher solvent strength of Methyl Ethyl Ketone assist formulators in producing economical, high quality, high solids formulations. These higher solvent strength characteristics produce lower viscosities of solvent solutions compared to Esters.
